Mid-century Modern Wingback Lounge Chair & Ottoman by Directional, Baughman MCM - Sweet Modern - Living Room
Mid-century Modern Wingback Lounge Chair & Ottoman
Mid-century Modern Wingback Lounge Chair & Ottoman by Directional.
This is a luxurious, large-scale wingback chair and ottoman set that was produced by Directional in 1968. It is part of Directional's Custom Collection and has its original tags. While we are not 100% certain of the designer of this collection, but the style of this chair reflects others that were produced by Milo Baughman for Directional around the same time.
In person, the scale of this chair and its unusual, matching winged ottoman is quite impressive. While in our showroom, we have watched customer after customer gasp at its size and design.
This piece comes with its original receipts from 1968, which totaled around $400 (a impressive amount for the time). Its original owner had it covered in crushed velvet that was custom dyed in royal blue. This chair and ottoman set sat in our workroom for months before we found a fabric that we felt would truly honor its history.
It has now been completely reupholstered in one of the softest velvets that we have ever felt. This is the kind of fabric that you cannot forget once you have touched it. Yes, it is that unbelievably soft. This new velvet is designed by Yomo Textiles out of NYC and is made of a rayon and cotton blend in The Netherlands. The fabric sells for $148 per yard and is worth every penny. The color varies with the light from navy to midnight blue.
The legs of this set have been refinished and stained to match the original in a deep, reddish charcoal that is nearly black. All of the soft materials are new, including the premium, high density foam.
